Summer Reading Recap

two children at the summer reading party
450 kids/tweens and 47 teens/adults signed up for summer reading in 2019

Starting June 1 and going through July 31, we had an amazing summer reading program this year! We had a total of 497 participants between all our departments. When our end of summer reading party rolled around, 450 people came to celebrate the program!

We had 70 programs in June and July alongside our summer reading program. Some of the programs were continuations of series, while other programs like DIY Resin Galaxy art for adults and teens were brand new and very well-received.

The kids programs were extremely popular – 2,270 people attended a kids program during June and July! Their highest-turnout events were Dan the Creature Man and Baffling Bill who both had around 100 people attend. The most popular event other than our program-end party was the kids Touch-a-Truck event with over 200 attendees!

There were very many books read this year – the kids and tweens alone read over 6,000 books! We saw the highest books read by teens and adults this year, possibly motivated by the fun prizes we were able to give them as they turned in their reading logs.

Of course, our summer reading programs would not be as fun or as memorable without the help of the local businesses who sponsor the program. Thanks to Baskin Robbins, Buddy’s Pizza, Buffalo Wild Wings, Classic Lanes, Coldstone Creamery, Coolyo Frozen Yogurt, Dunkin’, Farmington Community Stargazers, Friends of the AHPL, GameStop, Hungry Howie’s, Little Ceasars, Noodles and Company, Peppa Pig World of Play, Rainforest Cafe, The Henry Ford, Twist N’ Dip, and You, Me, and Bubble Tea for their generous support of our 2019 summer reading program!
