Keeping Active at Home


A great way the pass the time at home is by getting active! There are lots of videos and resources online that will help you pass the days by moving and grooving. Comment your favorite way to get some of your wiggles out while at home! 

A great way for the whole family to stay active is by having a dance party! There’s a lot of great music available online. Here are a couple of our storytime favorites! Jim Gill’s website links to videos of him singing his songs and dancing along! On her Facebook, Laurie Berkner is doing live events on weekdays at 10am and previous videos can be found there as well! 

An indoor or outdoor scavenger hunt is a great way to engage both the mind and body! There are lots of resources online for putting together these scavenger hunts online. One resource, which includes sample clues, is from the website The Spruce. Scavenger hunts can be as simple or as complicated as you would like! 

If your child is feeling a little overwhelmed with all the changes that are taking place, yoga or mindfulness exercises can be a good way to recenter yourself. The children’s youtube page Cosmic Kids Yoga offers a variety of yoga and mindfulness practices specifically geared towards kids. If you’d rather create your own yoga practice, the website Kid’s Yoga Stories has a lot of poses to use! 

If you are practicing distance learning at home, it is still important to incorporate movement into your day! The website Stand Up Kids offers 1-2 minute videos designed for teachers to show their class when they want to incorporate a movement break into their day. You can learn new exercises and keep your movement breaks focused with these short videos!
