Get Outside and Have Fun!

Now that the weather is finally starting to get warm, it’s the perfect time to get outside! If you are looking for a few activities to make your outdoor time a little more exciting, check out the resources below.

Geocaching- Geocaching, which first became popular several years ago, is an online scavenger hunt that anyone can join! Use your smartphone to hunt for hidden treasures around your community or local parks. Visit geocaching.com to learn more about how to participate and what geocaching is.

Outdoor Scavenger Hunt- There are many great options online for different outdoor scavenger hunts your family can try! This one from Buggy and Buggy encourage kids to draw pictures of what they see outside. This scavenger hunt is for more specific items your child can check off as they find. The website Doing Good Together provides an example of a scavenger hunt that could be used with older kids.

Make Your Own Bubbles– Blowing bubbles is fun at any age, but older kids may enjoy making their own, super durable bubble mix! There are many recipes online- I like this one from Spruce Crafts that uses ½ cup dish soap, 1 ½ cups of warm water, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Use bubble wands, homemade bubble wands, or even kitchen utensils to see who can get the biggest bubbles!

Go on a Bear Hunt- The children’s game “Going on a Bear Hunt” can be fun to reenact outside as you weave your way through (real or imaginary) obstacles. Many neighborhoods around the country are doing something extra special during this time and putting up bears or other stuffed toys in their windows for children to spot as they go for walks. Go on a Bear Hunt around your neighborhood and see what you can find!

Check out the Auburn Hills Parks and Recreation Facebook page to learn more about fun outdoor activities happening in our community!
