What is Battle of the Books?
Battle of the Books is a reading competition open to any 4th or 5th grader who attends an Avondale, Will Rogers, or Oakland Christian School. Students create teams of 4-6 members and read from a selected list of books. These books are available at the school libraries and AHPL.
How does Battle of the Books work?
4th graders may send one team and 5th graders may send 4 teams to compete against each other. Schools will conduct a pre-Battle to familiarize students with the Battle format and to see which lucky team(s) will represent their school. The final Battle will be held to determine which team is the most knowledgeable about the books they’ve read.
How do I sign up?
Have a parent/guardian fill out the permission slip, which you can find at the back of the 4th grade and 5th grade brochures (below). You decide who will be part of your team, your team name, and who is Team Coach (parent/guardian/adult). Team Registration forms are available at AHPL and school Media Centers. Please have team registration forms and parent permission slips turned in to your school Media Specialist or to the AHPL Youth Desk by Friday, January 31, 2020.
