Storytime in Cyberspace!

Are you missing storytime? We certainly are! Luckily, many wonderful authors and actors are taking the time to put out resources to help create your own storytime at home! We’ve compiled a short list we recommend, including the url (if available), best platform to access the stories, and a brief description.

Storytime Online– Celebrities, from Betty White to Oprah Winfrey, read their favorite stories on Storytime Online. Most books come with a recommended age level and activity guide pdf. Viewers can chose to stream the videos through Youtube, Vimeo, or Storybook online.

Save Our Stories– An Instagram account started by Amy Adams and Jennifer Garner, celebrities will post readings of children’s picture books. You do not need an instagram account to view the videos.

Instagram- Many children’s picture book authors are taking to the social media platform Instagram to read their stories. These include Mac BarnettOliver Jeffers, and James Dean (author of Pete the Cat). The readings are in the live stories on their accounts, so you will need a Facebook or Instagram account to access the recording.

Storytime Read Aloud Youtube channel– A Youtube channel from the publishing company Harper Collins that offers read alouds of picture books and Shel Silverstein poems. Picture books include books from popular authors Kevin Henkes and John Jory.

Tumblebooks- You can access children’s picture books online (even if you don’t have a library card) through the Auburn Hills Public Library website. Although not read by famous narrators, there are a variety of picture books that your child can follow along with which incorporate moving illustrations. It’s a great resource if you would like to read and discuss a book with your child, because you can move through it at your own pace!

Mo Willem’s Doodle Club- Although he’s not reading any of famous Pigeon stories (yet) Mo Willems is doing a Doodle Club each day. You can work on art projects together and learn a little more about the Pigeon, Elephant and Piggie, and all your favorite Mo Willems books!
